Tommy Ramos
Season after season, it was noted, the Lady Chap softball team consistently exceeded their own expectations. And while the program has seen the continual replenishment of its on-field talent and assistant coaches, one thing remained constant: head coach Tommy Ramos at the helm.
As the head coach of the Midland College Lady Chaparrals softball team, Ramos achieved a stunning level of success. He guided the Lady Chaps to multiple trips to the NJCAA National Softball Championships, finishing in seventh place in 2001, fourth in 2002 and seventh place in 2003. He has won WJCAC Coach of the Year and NJCAA Region V Coach of the Year honors. In addition, Ramos has guided the Lady Chaps to a .771 winning percentage and graduated over 90% of his two-year student athletes.
In the first game of the 2005 WJCAC opener, Ramos picked up the 300th win of his coaching career, which elevated his career record to an incredible 300-88-1 career mark.
Tommy is a graduate of Stanton High School where he excelled in basketball, track and cross-country. In cross-country, Ramos qualified for three regional meets. Following SHS, Ramos came to Midland College where he served as a student-trainer. He graduated from Midland College and briefly attended Wayland Baptist University (Plainview, Texas), before graduating with a bachelor of science in kinesiology from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (Odessa, Texas).
