W. Alpheus Harral
Alpheus Harral, by reputation, was known as one of the hard working sheep men of West Texas. Harral was born in Fort Stockton on October 25, 1921, and lived there until his death. His niece, Aline Collins, is the Public Service Librarian at Midland College and has been employed by MC for 35 years.
Harral graduated from the University of Texas and immediately went to Europe with the U.S. Army during WWII serving in England, France and Germany. In 1951, he married Peggy LaVerne Pouncey.
Mr. Harral always said he was blessed during his life as he took part in a business that he enjoyed and was able to travel a great deal with Peggy. Even during the last years of his life, he continued to enjoy the ranching business. Just prior to his death, he was helping with the transition from a successful family sheep operation of 131 years to an open range cattle operation.
