Jack G. LeBus
Jack G. LeBus, affectionately called Jackson, passed away July 28, 2007, after a short, but valiant battle with leukemia. He passed with all of the dignity and grace that he lived by and it never occurred to him that he wouldn’t beat it. He was born in Bonham, Texas on September 15, 1929. He was a member of St. Lukes’ United Methodist Church.
Jackson was blessed to have had a career doing exactly what he loved to do. He took his first flying lesson when he was 16 years old and retired from flying when he was 75. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1951 and shortly thereafter moved his family to Odessa to work in the oilfield. However, flying airplanes was in his soul. His first flying job was for Richard Henderson in 1963 at Rich-Air Company. To this day, he holds Richard near and dear to his heart. He began flying for William B. Blakemore, III in 1964 and flew for the Blakemore family for more than 30 years. He has since been flying and working for Mack Chase and his family at Deer Horn Aviation. He always thought he would miss flying but finally realized that as long as he could still be around his beloved airplanes in other capacities he was still happy. Over his career he logged in close to 20,000 flight hours.
The family expresses its eternal gratitude to Dr. David Watkins and to all of the wonderful nursing staff that loved and cared for Jackson during the past few months.
The family has also asked that any memorials be directed to the Midland College General Nursing Scholarship Fund in honor of the nursing staff in the oncology unit at Midland Memorial Hospital.
